If you’re already familiar with the “Business of Art” mentoring project I created with Sandi Cottrell of ArtWalk earlier this spring, and the work I’ve been doing with “Business of Art” scholarship winner Jessica Siemens, then you’ll understand why I’m presenting part of this note from Sandi here.
Its rare for me to be able to work so easily with someone toward a common goal as I have with Sandi on this project. Its an especially rare satisfaction indeed for her to articulate so clearly what my mentoring work is really all about.
“John Hiemstra was the co-creator of the “Business of Art” Scholarship, something ArtWalk had hoped to do for 5 years, but John’s enthusiasm for the project made it a reality.
Working with sponsor The Frame Maker, John took our SDSU scholarship winner under his wing and not only helped her create a booth display for the event, he packed the equivalent of ten years of real-life experience into two months of incredible mentoring. Jessica Siemens, the scholarship winner, was privy to advice, information and perspective that professional artists take a lifetime to acquire.”
If you asked me why I teach or why there a San Diego Finishing School or what you will get for your money and time invested with me, I couldn’t have illustrated it better or more succinctly than this.
Thanks, Sandi, both for your feedback and all the hard work that goes into making ArtWalk one of southern California premier art events. (I’m already working ideas for next year!)
