Celebrated Works by Warhol and Johns Lead Sale of Prints and Multiples


NEW YORK, NY.- Christie’s announced the Prints and Multiples sale on October 27th and 28th. The two day sale is comprised of over 440 works with estimates ranging from $2,000 to $450,000. The sale encompasses a selection of Modern, Post-War, and Contemporary prints including several works from the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco that are being sold to benefit the acquisitions fund. Highlights include works by Andy Warhol, Jasper Johns, Henri Matisse, M.C. Escher, and Marc Chagall.

Frick Collection Announces European Painting Exhibition for 2010

NEW YORK, NY.- The Frick Collection announced the loan of nine European paintings from Dulwich Picture Gallery in London, one of the major collections of Old Master pictures in the world, particularly of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Acquavella Galleries Shows Large Scale Works by Jean Paul Riopelle


NEW YORK, NY.- Through October 23rd, Acquavella Galleries is exhibiting Grands Formats (Large Scale) works by renowned twentieth-century Canadian artist, Jean Paul Riopelle (1923 – 2002). The current exhibition presents a selection of Riopelle’s large-scale paintings from the early 1950s through the 1970s in addition to four monumental works on paper from the 1960s. While many of the works have been shown in important exhibitions, such as the 1981 Riopelle retrospective that travelled from the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris to major museums throughout Canada, Mexico, and Venezuela….

Carmen Giménez Named Curator of Twentieth-Century Art at the Guggenheim

NEW YORK, NY.- Richard Armstrong, Director, Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation and Museum , announced today that Carmen Giménez has been named Stephen and Nan Swid Curator of Twentieth-Century Art, a position formerly held by the late Robert Rosenblum from 1996 to 2006. Ms. Giménez, who has been Curator of Twientieth-Century Art since 1989, will assume her new expanded position immediately. “We are thrilled that Carmen will take on this important curatorial role at the Guggenheim,” said Armstrong. “Carmen has an exceptional eye and a wealth of knowledge.

Full-Scale Retrospective of the Paintings of Vasily Kandinsky Opens at the Guggenheim


NEW YORK, NY.- Kandinsky, a full-scale retrospective of the paintings of Vasily Kandinsky—the visionary artist, theorist, and pioneer of abstraction—will be presented at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum from September 18, 2009, through January 13, 2010. This comprehensive survey comprising nearly 100 of Kandinsky’s most important canvases from 1902 to 1942 is drawn primarily from the three largest repositories of the artist’s work—the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation in New York, and the Städtische Galerie im Lenbachhaus und Kunstbau in Munich—as well as from significant private and public collections.

NEW YORK, NY.- Merce Cunningham, who was among the most influential choreographers of the 20th century, and was at the forefront of the American avant-garde for more than 50 years, died on Sunday night, the Merce Cunningham Dance Foundation said.
